The civil war in Syria has displaced millions of Syrians, both inside and outside Syria, half of whom are children. As winter approaches, malnutrition, starvation, and freezing temperatures, threaten the lives of children and the elderly especially. So far, the response of the global community has not been adequate to prevent this humanitarian disaster. If you would like to help Syrians who are suffering from hunger, two St. Patrick’s parishioners, Whitman professor Elyse Semerdjian and her husband Gibran Shamoun, who have family in Syria, recommend making contributions to UNICEF (the USAID is offering a 4-1 match to your donation which maximizes your contribution) http://www.unicef.org/emergencies/syria/ or CARE http://www.care.org/emergencies/syria-crisis
