Knowledge Bowl is an academic team open to all students at DeSales. We currently have 17 students participating and coming to practice each week. At meets, we play against other teams from the ESD’s “East Group” which includes Clarkston, Walla Walla High, Dayton, Pomeroy, Prescott, Waitsburg, and DeSales.
Meets start with a written test (multiple choice) taken by the teams collaboratively. Tests are scored, the teams are ranked according to their scores, and then three oral rounds follow where teams play three-teams-per-room answering oral questions read by a readerjudge. Teams “ring in” to answer a question, have their captain answer, and get a point if correct. In the top rooms, players are fast on the buzzer and very competitive with knowledge, so it’s fast-paced fun.
We look forward to the next East Group Meet in Waitsburg on November 16, followed by an Invitational Meet we host at St. Pat’s on December 12. If parishioners want to watch some great Knowledge Bowl in action, please come up to the classrooms above Blanchet shortly after 10 am on December 12 and watch the teams in the oral rounds. We love Knowledge Bowl and are thankful to represent DeSales in academic competition each year.
