Pope Francis’ Christmas Message: Happy Christmas! Christ is born for us, let us rejoice in the day of our salvation! Let us open our hearts to receive the grace of this day, which is Christ himself. Jesus is the radiant “day” which has dawned on the horizon of humanity. A day of mercy, in which God our Father has revealed his great tenderness to the entire world. A day of light, which dispels the darkness of fear and anxiety. A day of peace, which makes for encounter, dialogue and, above all, reconciliation. A day of joy: a “great joy” for the poor, the lowly, and for all the people (Lk 2:10).

God bless all of you who contributed to the Helpline Giving Tree and Toys for Tots! You have made Christmas merrier for many.

Warming Center: Thank you to the Congregational Church, United Way, and generous volunteers for providing life saving shelter for the homeless in these freezing, snowy days. Trained volunteers are needed for 3 hour shifts from 7 pm-8 am. Helpers are also needed to prepare a warm snack & do cleanup. Contact, 529-1183. Heating bills in this extreme weather are high.

Donations to United Way, designating Warming Center, are most appreciated. Blankets and water-proof boots are in great demand. Items may be dropped off in a bin at the WW Union Bulletin office, M-F, 9 am- 5 pm. Or at the Warming Center, Congregational Church, Palouse & Alder, parking lot entrance, 5:30-6:30 pm when Center is open, under 20 degrees, 25 with precipitation.

Catholic Charities: Please be generous in your yearly contribution to Catholic Charities, a major force for helping the homeless and those in need, in Walla Walla & the Spokane Diocese. St. Michael’s recently opened apartments at the VA are providing high quality housing for many previously homeless vets and their families, as well as single vets. WW Catholic Charities also provides counseling, and is helping build a new health center for youth across from Lincoln High School.

Crisis in Aleppo, Syria: Hundreds of thousands of innocent families are being bombed and driven out
of Aleppo by their government. Please pray for them. The IRC, International Rescue Committee,, needs donations to provide critical support.

We wish you and yours a blessed Christmas, and a peaceful and happy New Year!
